This is an index of live conditions with every driver named below - not a prediction, and the math is public. If your region reads Elevated or High, check your flight before you leave.

Each of 45 major US airports gets a score from two live inputs, then regions roll up from their airports.

FAA programs (from the FAA's national airspace status, the same source as our Delay Map): ground stop 40 points, ground delay program 25, departure or arrival delay program 15, any other active program 10.

Weather (active National Weather Service alerts at the airport's coordinates, via api.weather.gov): warning-tier convective, winter, ice, or tropical alerts 25 points; watch-tier 12; fog, wind, and winter weather advisories 8. An airport counts its single highest weather alert.

Rollup: an airport's score is FAA plus weather, capped at 100. A region's score is the average of its airports, with the ten mega-hubs (ATL, ORD, DFW, DEN, JFK, LAX, SFO, EWR, CLT, IAH) counted twice - a hub in trouble drags its whole region. Bands: 0-19 Low, 20-44 Elevated, 45+ High. The national figure is the mean of the six regions.

What this is not: a calibrated probability. We do not claim "38 means a 38% chance" - it means more live disruption pressure than 20 and less than 60, with the drivers listed so you can judge them yourself. Recomputed every two hours; the timestamp above never hides its age.
