Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how TripHero works - and your rights when travel goes wrong.

I rebooked on a different airline. Do I lose the money from my original ticket? +
No - this is the most important thing to know. If your airline canceled or significantly delayed your flight and you didn't fly a segment, the unflown portion is generally owed back to you as a refund to your original payment method, or at minimum a travel credit. Taking a faster flight on another airline doesn't erase that. Ask the original airline to document the disruption and request a refund of the unflown segment before you walk away.
How does TripHero know my trip is in trouble before the airline tells me? +
We watch the signals airlines react to slowly: live aircraft positions, weather at your airports, inbound-aircraft delays, connection windows, and airport congestion. When the math stops working - say your inbound plane will land 40 minutes after your connection boards - we alert you and hand you ranked options immediately, instead of waiting for the airline to admit the misconnect.
Can TripHero really rebook me across airlines? +
We show you the viable flights we can find across carriers and nearby airports, ranked by reliability - then tell you exactly what to ask for and where to go (gate agent, kiosk, phone line, or rebooking desk). For flights on your original airline, they rebook you at no cost. For a different airline, you (or your airline, if they have an agreement) book the new seat - and your original ticket's unflown value comes back to you as a refund or credit.
What is a backup plan (Plan B) and when do I get one? +
Any trip you add to TripHero can have a pre-built backup plan: ranked alternatives across airlines, plus alternate airports within driving range of both your origin and destination. It refreshes as conditions change. It appears on your My Trips page, so if things go wrong you already have a next move to consider.
Why do you show me airports 100+ miles away? +
Because sometimes the fastest way home isn't through your airport. If Louisville is grounded until tomorrow but Lexington has a seat leaving in an hour, a 78-mile drive beats a hotel night. We factor in the drive time and suggest the right ground transport - rideshare under 50 miles, rental car beyond that.
Does my airline status matter during a disruption? +
A lot. Status can unlock free same-day changes, waived fees, priority standby, and dedicated phone lines. Store your loyalty accounts in My Rewards and TripHero factors your tiers into the backup plans it builds - Option A might be asking about a status-based switch instead of paying for a new seat.
Is TripHero free? +
Browsing options and building trips is free while we are in early access. Premium disruption monitoring, automatic rebooking guidance, and alerts will be part of a subscription plan - pricing to be announced.
What data sources does TripHero use? +
Flight schedules and status from FlightAware AeroAPI, FAA operational advisories, live airport weather (METAR) from the U.S. Aviation Weather Center, and live aircraft positions from the OpenSky Network.
